Red Shirt students, families, and staff: Week 10 of the 2021 through 22 school year starts tomorrow, Monday, October 25, 2021. This will be a regular week. Please remind your children that following rules is the same as following the Covid 19 protocols. These protocols keep the district schools open and go a long way in keeping all families in our communities healthy. Also, remember to keep students with fevers, cough, nausea, and other symptoms home. Chances are that they need the rest, and the school will err on the side of caution and send them home. Tuesday there will be practice for flag football and volleyball. Finally, remember that Wednesdays are early release days—12:30 pm release time--from now through March. Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Week 9 of this school-year begins tomorrow, October 18, 2021. The school has been deep cleaned, and we are ready to resume in-person classes! Please check with your students to make sure they are not coughing, having shortness of breath, stomach aches/nausea, or have a fever. Students who come to school sick will be sent home to prevent the spread of illnesses. Report cards will be sent with students Friday this week, unless some glitch happens in Infinite Campus. Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. We are in week 8 of the 2021 through 2022 school year. Monday is a holiday. Buses will run at normal times on Tuesday, October 12. Wednesday, October 13 will be an early release at 12:30 as usual. Covid 19 protocols are still in effect. Please remind your children that we are open because we follow these protocols. More importantly, following the protocols helps keep families safe as well. Mask wearing, social distancing, and frequent sanitizing hands and work areas will reduce the spread of more than just covid 19. Also remind your children that breaking rules generally means breaking protocols. This goes for in class, at lunch, at recess, or on the bus. Stay safe, enjoy the holiday, and have a good night.

Week 6: Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Monday September 27 starts week 6 of the 2021 through 22 school-year. This will be a regular week. Again, covid protocols and safety policies will allow us to remain open from now until the end of the year. Please remind your student or students to follow all rules and procedures to keep themselves and their families safe. Students refusing to comply with rules and procedures will be sent home. This includes buses. Please remain safe and covid free. Thank you.

Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Week 5 of the 2021 through 22 school-year begins Monday, September 20th. There will be in-person school. Students coming to school must bring their iPad or Chromebook back to school. Covid 19 protocols will be strictly enforced. Any student continuing to act out of compliance with covid procedures will be returned home and parent or guardian will need to accompany them when they return to school. Speak with your children about the importance of following all school rules. Parents that wish to keep students on-line must communicate with teachers and ensure students are online when classes begin. Students must participate with video at all times. All online work must be completed. Last week has reminded everyone that covid is still a serious issue, and we must remain vigilant to keep our students safe. Have a great night and keep safe.

Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Tomorrow begins Week 3 of the 2021 and 22 school year. Well, not really since tomorrow is the Labor Day holiday. Tuesday through Friday of this week, though, will be a regular week. Remember, have students ready for the bus no later than 7 AM. Drivers are only able to wait 3 minutes at each stop and will honk. Covid is seeming to be on the rise again. There are plans for hybrid learning beginning again for in-district students. As early as September 13th, one week from tomorrow, Red Shirt School may be having in-person learning until 1:30PM and online learning from 1:30PM to 4PM. There will, of course, be online work all day for students whose parents decide to keep them learning from home. Open enrolled students’ online schedules will remain the same as established. Good evening Red Shirt students, families and staff. Tomorrow, Monday, August 30 starts week 2 of the 2021-22 school year. This week will be a regular week. Unless we go to covid risk level red, students will attend from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Busses are still adjusting to routes as more students enroll. ​Please have students ready to go no later than 7:00AM to be sure they will not miss the bus. Remember, covid protocols are still in place. No visits to the school except with advanced appointment. One week is the listed minimum time suggested. Have a good night. Stay safe!

Greetings Red Shirt students, staff, and families. Tomorrow May 24, will start week 36, the final academic week, for Red Shirt School students. As you can see, Rumble and I are outa’ here as soon as the week is over. We will be getting ready for the 2021 through 2022 school year in order to make it the best year ever for Red Shirt School students! It will be a normal Covid week with in-person classes starting at 8:00 AM and ending at noon. Wednesdays will be a meal kit delivery day. Meals will be delivered between 10 and 12 on Wednesday. Drivers will honk to let you know they are there. Friday will be a field day for all students. Pay attention to the weather to know if rain gear or summer attire will be necessary. Eighth grade and kindergarten students and families, be alert for any notifications from the school related to continuation ceremonies. At the very least, a message will be sent out saying that all looks good for the scheduled day. Pray for good weather. There will also be reminders sent out for times the students need to be at the school on the day of the ceremonies. Thank you! Have a great night.

Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Again, May has some of the biggest holidays. I could have went with National Walnut Day. Or, I could have given an easy nod to National Pizza Party Day. I didn’t. I went big. Friday, May 21 is National Talk Like Yoda Day. Talk Like Yoda Day comes on May 21 as an opportunity for die-hard Yoda fans to honor the day we first met the wisest little green guy in the galaxy. Yoda is one of the most memorable movie characters in history. It’s not only the wise things Yoda says but how he says them that makes his character such an iconic piece of pop culture. Some say Yoda looks pretty rough, but when 900 years you reach, look as good you will not… Monday, May 17 starts week 35 of the 2020 through 2021 school year. It will be a regular Covid week with in-person class from 8 AM to 12 PM and online classes in the afternoon. Be ready for the bus. They should be there around the regular time. Food kits will be delivered on Wednesday between 10 and 1. Listen for the honking driver. Again, in-person learning begins at 8. Not 8:15. Not 9:00. Please, be on time. Finally, all devices must be returned no later than Friday, May 21. All iPads, chargers, and hot spots must come back to school on that day. Thank you and have a good night.

Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. The month of May contains many great holidays. On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French army at the Battle of Puebla. This single military battle signified defeat of a European colonial power, and a victory for the Mexican people. This single battle was the roots of the Cinco de Mayo holiday. Everybody has a mother and absolutely no one is more special than mom. Sure, dad is really important. And, grandparent's too. But moms, well they are just the greatest. Often taken for granted, they are always our strongest supporter. You can't do wrong in Mom's eyes. Mother’s Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday in May. But there is no greater holiday of note than the one celebrated every year on the 14th day of May. DANCE LIKE A CHICKEN DAY!!!!! Dance Like a Chicken Day is for those who like to do the “Chicken Dance.” All ‘ya gotta do is dance like a chicken. While any dance music will do, there’s no dance like the Chicken Dance. Monday, May 10 starts Week 34 of the 2020 through 2021 school year. It will be a regular Covid week with in person classes running from 8 AM to 12 PM. Buses will arrive between 6:45 and 7:30 depending upon location. Wednesday is Meal Kit delivery day. Delivery drivers will honk outside your home between 10:15 AM and 1:30PM depending on location. Please remind students that they must follow all Covid procedures agreed to in the Return to School permission form. Those include mask wearing, remaining in seat while in class or on the bus to maintain social distance, and following all cleaning and safety guidelines while in school or on buses. Students not able to comply will be sent home for their safety, the safety of other students, and the safety of all Red Shirt families. Finally, hooded sweatshirts are fast becoming a problem in school. Caps and hoods must be removed at all time in buildings and on buses. Students not complying with the school dress policy will be asked to remove the hat or garment. Parents will be informed of this violation as well. Have a great night and stay negative…of Covid.

Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Wojupiwi Wi is the Lakota moon most often associated with the month of May. Warmer weather made its way onto the prairies in this moon phase, and the pleasant temperatures meant it was time to plant. Monday, May third kicks off Week 33 of the 2020-21 School-year. It will be a normal Covid week. Students attending in-person learning will arrive at school at 8 AM. Due to Covid restrictions, students will not be able to enter the building until that time. School will end for the day at 12:00PM. Online learning will run as usual depending upon your student’s teacher’s schedule. Meal kits will be delivered on Wednesday between 10 AM and 12:00 PM. There will be no school for Pre-K students on Fridays. Finally, Covid rules and regulations still apply. All people entering the school will wear masks at all times, social distancing to the greatest extent possible at all times, seating on buses will be assigned and enforced. Students not following Covid rules will be sent home or lose bus privileges.

Greetings Red Shirt student, families, and staff. April 21, 2021 is Kindergarten Day. Kindergarten Day is celebrated in honor of Friedrich Froebel. He was born on this day in 1782. In 1837, he started the first Kindergarten in Germany. It became popular quickly. Kindergartens were originally a 1/2 day to get children acclimated into learning, social interaction, and school, in a fun, yet educational manner. Kindergarten has evolved in most areas into a full-time program. This is partly the result of increasing pressures on education, and due to the increase in working mothers in America. Celebrate today with a trip down memory lane. Pull out the old pictures of you and/or your child's first day at Kindergarten. Monday, April 19 starts week 31 of the 2020 through 2021 school-year. Remember to let your children know they are expected to follow all Covid safety procedures including wearing masks at all times, maintaining social distances in and out of class, and staying in assigned seats on the bus and in class. Remember, as was initialed in the Permission to Return to In-Person Learning form, students who choose to ignore these Covid procedures from tribal ordinances will be sent home. Finally, the food service deliveries have been worked out for the remainder of the year. Food boxes, milk, and fruit for all active students residing in the district boundaries will delivered on Wednesdays between 10AM and noon. Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. March 15th is Titanic Remembrance Day. The day is dedicated to remembering the 1,522 passengers and crew who lost their lives on the ship’s maiden voyage in 1912. I thought that it would be better to remember this historic event rather than remind you that April 15th is also tax day… Last week’s return of students was a complete success. Families, please, praise your children for following the Covid rules and encourage them to keep up the great work! Monday, April 12 marks the beginning of Week 30 for the 2020 through 2021 School-year. If they have not yet, all students are to return all iPads, chargers, and hotspots on Monday. Ipads and chargers will be necessary for work in class, and hotspots must be inspected, updated, and re-inventoried. Wednesday will be the first day of food box deliveries. A food box will be delivered to each student residing within the district. Each box will contain food items for breakfasts and lunches spanning a full week. Milk, fruit, and vegetables will also be delivered. Deliveries will be made between 10AM and noon. Finally, make sure online students complete all on-line and paper/pencil work as well as attend all video conferences.

Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Week 29 of the 2020 through 2021​ school-year will kick off Tuesday, March 6. There will be no school on Monday for the Easter Holiday. Food service will deliver for two days on Tuesday. If the student's Permission to Return Form has been returned, Thursday, April 8 will be the day in-person learning starts again. Students without a returned form will not be allowed on the bus or in the school. Forms must be returned no later than Wednesday, April 7 for students to start the next day. After Wednesday, students can return, but they will be required to wait one calendar week from the date the form is received by the school before returning to in-person learning, so the school can adjust lunch schedules, bus arrangements, and classroom set-ups. Originating in Switzerland, this is a holiday to let your student’s principal know what kind of job as a principal is being done. As with all things European, Buy Your Principal a Watch Day seems counter intuitive. If you believe the principal is doing well, purchase the person a relatively cheap watch, say a Timex digital. If you believe they are doing a poor job, buy them a top of the line Omega Sea Master Dive watch, the best of Swiss technology. If the principal gets a Timex, it is a sign that time is being managed very well and no assistance is needed. If a principal receives the Omegas from one or more families, it is a sign that the individual needs a lot of help managing the time and duties of a principal, so only the best will do. Oh yes. Thursday, April 1 is April Fool’s Day, too. Don’t fall for any obviously bad pranks… Monday, March 29, 2021 is the start of Week 28 of the 2020 through 2021 school-year. This will be a shortened week due to the Easter holiday. Food service will run on Monday and Wednesday of this week with two days of breakfast and lunch items each day. Thursday, April 1 will be a half-day for students and staff. ​Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. March 26th is Live Long and Prosper (LLAP) Day. Inspired by Star Trek's character, Commander Spock, the day is meant to be a time for all to contemplate the Vulcan blessing, live long and prosper, and consider how it might apply to your own life. It is always celebrated March 26th, because that is Leonard Nimoy's, the individual who played Commander Spock, birthday. It was either LLAP Day, or Melba Toast Day. I felt this to be the more endearing of the two holidays celebrated this week. Tomorrow, Monday, March 22 will be the start of Week 27 for the 2020 through 2021 school-year. Food service deliveries will be made on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week. Monday's deliveries will also include, for those wishing to allow their student or students to return to school on April sixth, one or more Permission to Return forms. There will need to be a form completed for each child returning to school. All information requested must be completed, all statements made must be initialed, and the document must be signed before your child or children can return to school. Completed forms must be returned to school personnel making the Wednesday food service deliveries. Distance learning will continue for the next two weeks. Please ensure that your child or children participate in all video conferences, completes all online work, and submits all paper and pencil work provided. Have a great night.

Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. Week 26 is starting out just a little stormy. Staff will continue remote work tomorrow, March 15, due to the winter storm. Meal service will run on Tuesday and Thursday due to the storm as well. There are barely 10 more weeks of school this school year. Keep working to get your students to participate in video conferences, to use the online assignments, and to complete any paper and pencil work sent out by the teachers. Remember, St. Patrick’s Day is Wednesday. Wear green to avoid pinches, and do not steal any leprechaun gold!

Monday, March 8, 2021 begins Week 25 of the 2020 through 2021 school-year. ​Food service delivery will take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. School staff will be calling to determine if you will be allowing your children to come to school on April 6 or if you wish for the continued use of online learning. Remember, if you cannot be contacted, we will be required to keep your student or students in online learning. In any case, please make sure to get your students on video conferences, have them participate in the online activities, and see that they complete all paper and pencil work delivered to them. Greetings Red Shirt students, families, and staff. It is week 24 of the 2020 through 2021 school year, and we are entering the Moon of Snow Blindness. Food service will run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week. Remember, the school will be calling to determine if you will be sending your child to school on April sixth. If we cannot contact you, we will be required to assume you want your student to remain in the online learning portion of school this year. If your student or students remain online and later you determine that you want them to return to school, Red Shirt will require at least one week prior notification to change bus and lunch schedules. Remember also, if you do not want your child to wear a mask and follow social distancing procedures, they may continue online learning. Wednesday will have items for 3 days of breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Parents and guardians, make sure your students participate in all video conferences, complete and submit all on line work, and finish and hand in paper and pencil work to food service delivery staff. That is how attendance and grading is recorded. Remember, this trimester ends in March, so get your child or children to participate as much as possible! Finally, tomorrow is Be Humble Day. It is a day to practice humility. It is not a day to talk about oneself, but a day to listen to others, appreciate their accomplishments, and learn from them.
