Good morning, Oglala Lakota County School District Staff, Students, and Families. This is Connie Kaltenbach, Superintendent, with a weather message.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for our area effective this afternoon through Friday afternoon. School buses are considered high-profile vehicles, so we need to get students safely home before the strong gusts hit our area. To do this, we will release the students today at 1:00 PM from all our schools so the bus drivers can get them home. Staff will have a regular dismissal today.
Tomorrow, Friday, January 16, 2026, there will be no school for students due to the high winds. Staff will have a 5-hour school inservice day. Instructional staff will work from 7:45 to 12:45. Non-instructional staff will work from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM or at the regular start time for 5 hours. Admin leave will be given for the remainder of the workday.
This includes the students and staff at Batesland, Red Shirt, Rockyford, Wolf Creek, Lakota Tech High School, the Virtual High School, and the District Office.
Today, Thursday at 1:00 PM Student dismissal.
Tomorrow, Friday, no school for students, 5-hour in-service for staff.
