Dear OLCSD Families and Community,
There will be no school for students tomorrow, Friday, October 2, so our staff can take part in additional school safety training and receive support following this week's events.
We take every school safety concern extremely seriously. The safety of our students and staff is, and will always be, our highest priority. Tomorrow, our school teams will review and strengthen our safety procedures, work alongside our law enforcement partners, and take time to support one another so we return ready to care for your children.
Keeping our schools safe takes all of us. We encourage parents, family members, and community members to always report any suspicious activity or concerning information right away to a school administrator, staff member, or law enforcement, so it can be investigated immediately. Your voice makes a difference, as we saw this week.
We also hope this day gives families time together. Please take a moment to hug your children, talk with them, listen to how they are feeling, and remind them how much they are loved. If your child is worried or upset, our school counselors will be available when classes resume and are happy to help.
Athletic events will go on as scheduled:
• Big Foot Conference football games will continue as scheduled.
• Lakota Tech vs. Little Wound football home game will also continue as scheduled.
We invite our communities to come out and support our students.
Classes will resume on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Thank you for your trust and support as we work together to keep every school safe.
Sincerely,
Connie Kaltenbach
Superintendent, Oglala Lakota County School District 65-1
