Good morning, Oglala Lakota County Staff, Students, Parents, and Guardians.  This is Connie Kaltenbach, Superintendent.

Dear Lakota Tech Families and Staff,

We want to inform you about an incident reported to Lakota Tech High School today involving a possible firearm on school grounds.

The school received a report from a parent that a student may have had a firearm at school. Administration responded immediately and removed the student from the general student population. A search was conducted, and law enforcement was contacted and came to the school to assist with the investigation and ensure the safety of our students and staff.

At this time, there is no ongoing threat to our school community. We are continuing to work closely with law enforcement and are following our established safety and security procedures.

We are grateful to the parent who came forward. Reports like this one are one of the most important ways we keep our schools safe, and we encourage anyone who sees or hears something concerning to tell a staff member, administrator, or law enforcement right away.

We understand that reports involving a possible weapon can be upsetting for students, parents, and staff. Please know that we take every report seriously and act immediately when information is brought to our attention. School counselors are available for any student who would like to talk.

We are aware of the social media post and ask parents and students to avoid spreading unverified information or rumors while the situation is being addressed. We continue to work with law enforcement to ensure our school's safety.  Please know your child will be excused from school today if you choose to keep them home.

Thank you for your continued trust, cooperation, and support as we work together to keep every student safe and supported.

Sincerely,

Connie Kaltenbach, Superintendent
